About the villa
A Restored Heritage by the Sea

The property
Quinta Marefe is a private villa with three bedrooms, each with its own en suite bathroom, designed to offer comfort, privacy, and a strong connection to its surroundings. The main house features two bedrooms with king size beds and private bathrooms, while the separate Garden Suite offers additional privacy, with its own bathroom and kitchenette.
Quinta Marefe is built on land that has belonged to our family since the 19th century. For generations, our ancestors lived here in stone houses, deeply connected to the land. Over time, these homes became ruins, but the land remained alive, surrounded by fruit trees and flowers that continued to bloom year after year.
Inspired by this heritage, we decided to bring new life to the property while preserving its history. The villa was designed around the original stone ruins, which are now part of the Garden Suite, the pool, and the solarium areas, while the main house was built from the ground up in a contemporary Madeiran style.
With great respect for our family’s legacy, Quinta Marefe brings together tradition, nature, and modern design in a unique and welcoming setting. Whether you spend your days exploring nearby trails, discovering beautiful spots, or simply relaxing by the pool, the villa offers a peaceful atmosphere that makes you feel truly at home.
History
Quinta Marefe carries within its stones the whispers of time, beginning in the late 1800s when it was the home of our great-grandparents, Ana and Francisco. They lived in the heart of Paul do Mar, a vibrant fishing village, long before roads connected it to the rest of the island—making it a journey of four hours to reach. Back then, the village was alive with a spirit of exchange, where fishermen traded their catch with mountain dwellers offering fresh vegetables.
After their time here, the property lay empty for many years, becoming a wild paradise of fruit trees and blooming flowers. The ruins of their home remained untouched, standing as a silent testament to their legacy. Four years ago, we revived Quinta Marefe, honoring its past while blending it with a vision for the future. The stone structures from the 1800s remain, while the pool and solarium occupy what once was the living room and kitchen. Our current garden suite was once one of the original rooms, lovingly restored to preserve the soul of this place.
Today, Quinta Marefe is a harmonious blend of history and classic Madeiran design, offering a luxurious escape that pays tribute to the rich heritage of Paul do Mar.
